Your questions answered

Q. Are board trays waterproof?

A. Yes with the correct coated material and gusseted style.

Q. Can you put board trays in the oven?

A. Yes, again if the right board is used.

Q. Can you put windows in the tray lids?

A. Yes, but the end use may demand a bespoke manufacturing process. Traditional glued windows may not be airtight.

Q. Are the trays gas flushable?

A. This will depend on the lidding material and particularly the process used to bond the lid to the tray, but in principle – yes.

Q. Are the trays compostable?

A. This depends on your definitions. Over time the trays will biodegrade particularly in controlled conditions and mixed with a source of nitrogen waste. Just left in the garden then no, unless the coating is a water based emulsion, the trays will outlast surrounding green compost bases.
